Sewing at Mode & Pelle
It takes at least 3 years for a beginner to master the skills of sewing leather.
• Year 1 – straight lines, hidden lines, top stitches
• Year 2 – intricate parts such as pocket openings.
• Year 3 – Joining curves, such as sleeves and collars and putting on ribbing and zippers
Why does it take so long to master the skill? Because no mistake is allowed! Imagine! There is no eraser, there is no correction pen. If stitches are undone (snip, snip), there will be needle holes left behind and the panel has to be thrown away.
It’s like any live performance. Precision and Precision. Kudos to our master sewers who delivered the best workmanship piece after piece! ^^
Do you ever wonder how your leather jacket is made? Let me tell you some awesome facts about Mode & Pelle!
Unique and individual
Behind the scene at Mode & Pelle
Our experienced cutters are master artisans. Leather hides are their canvas. They cut and trace every panel by hand knowing exactly how they want the jacket to look once it is assembled. No machine can replace the masters’ artistry and no two jackets are the same!
If you think dressing up is hard, well, think again. Dressing down is even more challenging. It is what we called effortless chic. Can you put together an emsemble that looks like pieces of random clothing but they all blends in so well and give you a personality rather than a big dollar sign?
Do you remember Vivian Ward in Pretty Women? How she wowed everyone with her amazing transformation from a tramp to a dame with an amazing looking Gucci dress? As much as I love the movie, I blame it for the incredible urge for women rushing to brand name stores buying everything they can (or sometimes cannot) afford. Dress from head to toe in brand name and it cannot fail!
On the contrary, dressing down is not about money, it is about personal taste and style. It’s about wearing torn jeans with dinner jacket and bikers with your evening gown. Mix and match and have fun! That’s where the leather sleeve jacket comes in. When a biker jacket seems too edgy for work, soften it up with a fabric body and keep the leather trimmings. Take the seriousness out of your wardrobe and give it a little twist! It will make your working day more fun and your run to supermarket an event!

Not long, long time ago, before the world was drawn to H&M or Topshop or Zara, little girls and little women learned to make their own dresses with simple paper pattern, vibrant fabric and a lot of imagination.
Oh sure, movie stars and fashion magazines set the trend and ordinary people followed. Who would not want to be a Hitchcock’s heroine with the perfect the hair and the perfect outfit even when she was in dire strait and running for her life.
But a girl with any pride would try to establish her own style. She learned which colours best suited her facial tone, which pattern complimented her figure and what kind of trimmings gave the perfect finishing touches. Ms Erin McKean shares her view on the most iconic silhouettes in her new book The Hundred Dresses.
In the Children’s classic, The Hundred Dresses, little Wanda got into trouble with her classmates because nobody believed she had 100 dresses in her closet. Today, we could buy a hundred dresses from the stores, some are hits, some are misses, most are lost in the closet.
Are we better off than Wanda who has imagination or the little women with their trusted sewing machines?
In any case, I am intrigued by both books with the same title. I think they will offer a great read when I am on vacation next week. ^^
Distress Vintage Biker Jacket
Rarely has a single jacket generated so much interest in television. Not because it compliment the figure of the leading lady or make the character stand out from a crowd or revealing a new trend in fashion. No, no, no. it is much more than what catches the eyes. The jacket has become a legitimate character in the cast and it has its own story to tell.
The distressed cowhide, the vintage biker style, the animal print trimmings and hidden studs all integrated seamlessly together. It embodies the toughness, hardship, basic instinct and mystery of the leading lady.
Bravo to the costume designer for picking out the coolest jacket in TV this season.
Do you have a jacket that shows your story? I wouldn’t go so far as to have my jacket run over by a car to make it distressed and interesting.
Simply treasure every crease, stain and mark. That’s what makes your jacket awesome and irreplaceable! ^^
Mode & Pelle Mini Scarf
I was invited to a 60s theme party last night. Oh what fun we had with all the colorful prints, big hair and delicious fake eye lashes! Perhaps we don’t want to apply a whole can of hairspray to our hair everyday (saving the environment etc), but it doesn’t mean we shouldn’t have fun with our wardrobe.
If you were a klutz like me who is always getting my scarf tangle with doors and hanging dangerously close to the floor, perhaps you could accessorize with a mini scarf instead, tie it the French way, the rich girl way or the bandit way… enjoy!
May a bit of colorful accessories brighten up your day. Have a bit of fun everyday!
Baby Leather Slippers by Mode & Pelle
My neighbour’s version…
This little piggy went to shopping mall,
This little piggy stayed at home,
This little piggy had wagyu beef,
This little piggy had none.
And this little piggy went…
“Wee wee wee” all the way home…
I think mommie needs a bit of shopping therapy. ^^
